「アラマタさん、風呂でいちばん本が読めるのは、ドライアイがなくなるからですよ。風呂の湯気が眼の表面をいつも潤してくれるんです。じつは私もドライアイで、こうしてお茶がでたときは5分ほど眼にあてるんです。そうしますと、ドライアイが見事に改善しますよ」そういって、コーヒーのカップを眼に当てられた。アラマタもマネをして眼にあてたところ、じつにいい。
 
そうか、おいらが風呂で読書するのが好きな原因は、ドライアイにあったのか！お茶を運ぶ人が怪訝な顔で通り過ぎたが、これからは喫茶店で、まず眼に湯気を飲ませることにしよう。
